Game Night, a mixed reality party game developed by Fantail Games, is set to launch in Early Access for Meta Quest devices on November 18th. Designed to bring people together in the same physical space, Game Night combines classic party game vibes with innovative mixed reality features, promising a lively multiplayer experience for all ages.
Bringing the Living Room to Life with Mixed Reality
Game Night taps into the unique potential of mixed reality (MR) by turning your living room into a playground where players can interact both virtually and physically. According to Fantail Games founder Steven Linton, the real magic of MR lies in its ability to create shared experiences. “We think that the real secret sauce of MR is in the social experience of playing with friends and family face-to-face together in the same room,” Linton explains. “Our goal was to create deceptively simple minigames that combine physicality, tactics, and social interaction—just like the best sports or board games.”
Minigames That Keep the Party Going
When Game Night launches in Early Access, it will feature three minigames that take advantage of mixed reality to get players off the couch and into the action:
- Fishing – A fast-paced challenge where players race to scoop the most virtual fish into their baskets.
- Bouncing – Players guide balloon rabbits toward carrots, scoring points for their bouncing skills.
- Slapping – Take on an alien jelly menace, slapping away invaders to protect your space.
Each minigame supports 1-4 players, encouraging families and friends to play cooperatively or competitively, creating unique experiences with every session. Fantail Games has big plans for Game Night, with more minigames and features set to roll out ahead of its full release in 2025.
A New Kind of Social Gaming Experience
Fantail Games envisions Game Night as a refreshing take on social gaming in an increasingly tech-dominated world. “My favorite moments testing Game Night have been when parents play with their kids,” Linton shares. “Everyone’s equally invested, and they’re connecting in a way that’s different from any traditional game. It’s refreshing and truly unique.”
