The Sphericam 2 is the world’s first fully spherical 360º video camera that captures stunning 4K video. With the Sphericam, you can film everything around you and experience your footage in breathtaking resolution on your PC, tablet, or VR headset. Whether you’re shooting for professional purposes or simply creating immersive content for fun, the Sphericam 2 offers unparalleled quality and versatility.

File Formats and Quality

For professional use, Sphericam 2 captures massive files with an exceptionally high bitrate, preserving lossless or near-lossless quality. If you’re looking for more manageable file sizes without sacrificing much quality, the camera can also output smaller, highly compressed files—ideal for casual use or faster workflows.

Pro Quality

Sphericam 2 records six individual video streams, supporting up to 60 FPS in Cinema DNG format. With a total bitrate of up to 2.4 gigabits per second (that’s 300 MB per second!), and using top-tier memory cards like the Sandisk Extreme Pro, you can achieve cinema-grade footage. At 30 FPS, the video is completely lossless, ensuring maximum fidelity. Even at 60 FPS, though slightly lossy, the quality remains high enough for extensive color grading and post-production freedom.

High-Quality Compression

For those who need high-quality footage but in a more compressed format, Sphericam 2 offers six individual videos in H.264, packaged into an mp4 file. You still get up to 600 megabits per second (100 Mbit/sec per camera), delivering impressive video quality without the massive file sizes.

Realtime Stitching: Resolution & Quality

Sphericam 2 can stitch panoramic video in real time, outputting directly to its internal memory. You can expect at least 30 FPS at a 4096×2048 resolution, with 10-bit color and a bitrate of at least 600 megabits per second. This real-time capability makes it perfect for capturing immersive environments without the need for post-processing stitching.

Live Streaming: Resolution & Quality

By connecting the camera to an Ethernet network via a micro USB to Ethernet adapter, Sphericam 2 supports live streaming. You can choose between streaming six individual unstitched videos or one single stitched panoramic video, with bitrates of up to 100Mbps—ideal for live events, broadcasts, or VR experiences.

Robbert VR has been my passion since the days of the Virtual Boy. As an early adopter, I still treasure my Oculus Rift DK and Palmer Luckey's backers’ letter. Thank you for sharing this journey with me – the site and channel will remain online as a tribute to our shared love for VR and I'll try to post regularly.
